Green Dragon's Lair

Updated: Apr 30

I created lairs for Black and Bronze Dragons, and to be honest, Creating Dragon Lairs is fun. Yes, yes, I realize that not all Dragon's Lair in Caves, but not every dragon is going to find an abandoned castle on a cliffside to live in, and I figured the cave-style could be incorporated into most campaigns pretty easily.

Now I have a bit of explaining to do. This lair is meant to be the classic behind-the-waterfall secret cave. It would exist in a cliffside, where the Green Dragon could live in secret, emerging from the falls whenever it so desired. The party would have to wade through the water to enter the lair, luckily the sound of the falls might muffle the sounds of their approach.

I would like to explain a few particular areas in the lair too, So I'll number the areas I want to talk about, and address them individually.

  1. This is the waterfall itself. I imagine if the players stay within ten or fifteen feet of the shore or walls, they'd be able to wade through the water instead of swim if they desired. This could allow them to be ready for any encounters with the dragon's minions.

  2. This area is a room that has a hole in the high ceiling. This hole is large enough for the dragon to fly through in an emergency, (And perhaps for a careless adventurer to fall through as well). The main feature of note is the large tree growing here, feeding off the sunlight that peers through the hole in the ceiling, and surrounded my flowers. The dragon might be keeping this place as a personal garden, or maybe it just grew like that itself.

  3. There is a constant stream of water falling through the ceiling in this room and splashing into the pool below. Again, this sound can allow for a stealthily approach for the adventurers. Wait a moment... is it possible that the dragon might be using this strategy aswell?

  4. Here we have the most important room in the Lair. This is the dragon's treasure room, along with the room where it sleeps. The entrance to this room is blocked off by some vines growing down from above, and scattered light pours in through small holes in the ceiling. It's quite beautiful... if you don't mind the green dragon who calls this place home.

There are a few more rooms that are unlabeled too. They can serve as camps for minions like lizard folk, kobolds, or goblins. Overall, I think this map came out really well, and I can't wait to use it myself. I hope it finds a place in your games too.
